Better Late Than Never

I am really struggling to focus as you might have noticed. If anyone still comes to check here from time to time thanks and drop me a line so I know I still have a few blog buddies LOL. Today's pictures arent too pretty but it is what surrounds us at the moment.

Although the mud has dried up just about completely and we are having the odd shower of rain, the small acreage we have is not nearly enough to accomodate 11 horses, so as you can see, here is Wiggle having a nice roll which helps her get rid of her itchy winter hair and she loves to do. There is not a blade of grass to be seen in the fields.

This second picture is one that I shot for stock the other day. The three two year old fillies spent the whole winter with access to the outdoors and a shelter and had thicker coats than the others and this is how much hair is coming off of them with plenty more to come!!!!!

I watched the Kentucky Derby this evening with great anticipation only to be saddened by the fate of the filly who came in second. So sad, her owners and trainers must be devastated. I didn't know her and I am, but then as you all know I am a soft touch for any animal especially one in distress.

Nothing much happining here at the moment, the lilac bush is in flower, I will try to get some shots tomorrow if the wind lets up, it has been very gusty. I may set up a small studio because a friend gave me some peacock feathers and I am dying to shoot some pictures of them, so I can perhaps pick a sprig of lilac and get some shots of it too in good lighting.

I have been diligently working on archiving my photos and catagorising them all, and choosing some of the better ones for stock photos to send to the magazines and agencies. I try to do a few a day and it also helps me to just switch off and keep my mind occupied and not feel sorry for myself.

The horses are all fat and sassy and happy despite their slightly reduced rations (feed has tripled in price) and they spend all of their time outside so it has eased the burden on me as far as the stables goes. Gee is still with us, she still hasn't gone to the track so I dont know what her owner is doing but I love her to death anyway.

Taxes is as big as any of my other horses and he is only just one year old. I need to get him gelded but just have to find the cash to to it, as well as Blue. Taxes is still as pushy, nippy and naughty as ever. I will post an update pic of what the wound looks like now, amazing when you think how it started.

I dont know if I have posted this photo before but it is one of my attempts at "fine art" using photographs. This is a picture of Dream's head looking over Eb and Blaze's back.

What y'all think???? Do you think there is hope for me still as a starving artist/photographer, horse lover LOL.
This second shot is from a farm shoot I did last year. I had to cut him out, he had a wooden fence and a red barn behind him, and put him on a new background. I think it worked pretty well and it printed as an 8"x10" really well.

Taxes' wound is coming along, it still looks awful but we are managing to keep it clean and it doesnt seem to be bothering him from a pain perspective at all. I still have no clue how he did this to himself, so it will remain a mystery. The only thing I can think of is that one of the colts on the other side of the bars kicked him, a lucky shot betweeen the bars, when they were playing.

I am still working on getting my stock photos together, catagorised and sent into the Agency. I have so many pictures and it is going to be a long never ending task. One of my projects I have set for myself is to get at least 5 done each day and so far I am keeping that up.

Had lots more snow again, not quite as bad as Chicago and north of us but it started melting yesterday and then froze into an icerink this morning.

Got another stable stripped today so we are making progress. Hope everyone is staying warm. ((((Hugs))))

I lied when I said I hadnt touched my camera in weeks, I just remembered that last weekend (sunday before this one) a friend of ours who had taken her yearling to the Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio phoned as they arrived home to ask me to come over and take some quick shots of him while he was still all dolled up. This is a portrait I did of him. The kitten is one that adopted them over there and they didnt want to leave it there as it was raining and muddy and it was such a sweet little thing. What a little character. I just wish It hadnt been so late in the evening or I would have tried to get more shots of her because she was playing so nicely and had settled right in with all the horses and other cats. She travelled back with the horse, she sat on the hay in the back of the trailer, quite happy!

The boys are very happy with their new enclosure. I put them in and let Blue out there this evening for a few hours. He discovered the electric tape quite quickly poor boy but he also had a nice run around and enjoyed being out and able to stretch his legs. I will try to get pictures tomorrow. When I first put them out I am always cautious about them being in an unfamiliar area so dont always have my camera with me in case I have problems.

We woke up to 30C and frost this morning as predicted but it warmed up into the upper 50s so was a nice day overall. We turn our clocks back this Sunday, yay an extra hour to sleep, the downside is that I have to start the chores earlier in the evening because it gets dark earlier.

I have to do my sales tax return tomorrow!!! Cant forget that, yuk. Also expecting about three tonnes of feed to be delivered so have been cleaning the feed barrels frantically and getting everything tidied up. I meant to get hold of my hay man today to see what he has available but forgot.

I got my issue of "The Horse" magazine today and I have two pictures in it this month. Doesnt pay a whole lot but it is nice to get a monthly check(cheque) in the mail when they use shots. I have had photos in the August, October and this month - November, issues.
