Not without much battling my last show of the year is photographed and proofs posted at http://loriprophoto.jalbum.net . All four shows are up if anyone is interested in some of what I do LOL.

This morning Herbie and his daddy Blue were big buddies out in the pasture. It was so cute, momma was nowhere in sight and there were the two of them standing on the hill, when they saw me they came running towards me and then stood in the corner of the "pasture" together and later I shot another one of them grazing together on what is left in the field. As usual click on each pic to see a larger version.

Nothing much to report, just catching up on everything, the carpet that was given to me is in and I am slowly getting through all the filing and paperwork that has piled up over the past 5 months and some of it longer.

The leaves are already turning and it feels very autumn/fall like which of course it is, but it is different this year as it is every year. Stan is cutting the one large field for hay so we should be baling in the next few days again. I hope it is going to give us enough to get through winter. Then we just have the field next door to where I live to do and we will be done for the season.

Monday 11 May 2009 - Goldie's Debut

Well the light was a bit flat today so not the best for shooting the palomino who needs a nice golden light, but here is the brat, she is a year old at the end of this month, and apart from the umbilical hernia which I am not sure how I am going to deal with, I think she is gorgeous!!! Then I am barn blind. What do you think?

She still has a little bit of fuzz on her so I will have to wait another week or so until I have it all brushed out, but she is a livewire and a Handful with a capital "H". I don't know how I always end up with these naughty horses!!!!! The only sane one is Blue (who is in the background of the side shot of her). He has healed up really well and I had no problems with his gelding. Hopefully I can get him riding soon and in with the other horses so he can end his solitary life.

It has been a strange day today, I have been trying to visit my friends in Indianapolis for months now and every time we try to arrange it, something comes up and messes it all up!! I wanted to go visit today but I will see them this weekend at the horse show I am shooting I hope!! The problem with going to visit is that it would turn into an all day journey because they are about 60 odd miles away on the outskirts of the city (I think, I am a terrible navigator so it will be a miracle if I even find them LOL).

Praying for one or two more dry days so the farmers can get their crops in, but expecting storms Wednesday again so they better hurry and get those seeds planted who knows when they will get their next opportunity.

Well that is it, I am working furiously at my stock images, work is not an option around here so I have to find an income somehow.

Maybe I Am On A Roll (Fingers Crossed)

We had another beautiful day today, not cold but not hot and beautiful sunshine most of the day. I eventually managed to convince myself at about 5 to go and put the two stud colts into stables and let Taxes out into the fenced area for a run. I cannot believe how big he is. He is the same size as the two year olds!!!!!

He is still naughty though, and now that I am hopefuly improving I am going to have to start working with some of these horses. If you notice (click on the image to see a bigger version) he found a short stick and was running around with that in his mouth. He is one of those horses that has to be doing something with their mouths, some horses are not happy unless they have the lead rope in their mouth. He was full of beans as you can see.


When he had had his bit of turnout time I put Gee out to run and gave her hay out there but she wasnt interested in it. She hung around the gate into the barn. She obviously feels insecure in an unfamiliar place and wants to stay as close to what she knows. I lead her out a few times to get her to move away from the barn and see if I culd get her running and letting off steam. She eventually did and I couldnt catch her when I wanted to bring her in LOL.

After her little excursion I put Blue out for his run around and exercise. I need to make a daily thing of this, with 4 different horses needing to share the area at different times it is hard. to keep the balance.

I am hoping to be able to take 4 or 5 horses to the other pasture down the road soon which will also be a relief. Will try to arrange that tomorrow.

Other than that I think we are in for a very nice spring for a change, and hopefully it will last longer than usual, fingers crossed. I think the first cutting of hay will be on schedule, it is just a matter of seeing if the farmers will bring their prices back down a bit.

Larry is goig to visit his plastic surgeon tomorrow at 1 so the day will be pretty much taken care of with the trip up and back and the appointment.

I hope you enjoy the photos, it is so nice to see bright sun again, and it breaks my heart seeing that hay field in the background while my fields are absolutely bare! (((Hugs)))

Finally I am on the mend (I hope)

As a lot of you know I have been suffering severe depression for a couple of years now and it has taken ages to find the right meds to balance my brain chemicals out, but I think we are finally there. The better weather is certainly helping, and the getting out and about on my own a bit too.

I am working on a little project with Valerie as she does great pencil sketches and paints, and digital art. I am hoping to incorporate it with my efforts which have come to a grinding halt but I have plans for expansion and marketing for the near future.

I am hoping that we are not heading for a,other drought because we have had no rain, the pastures are bare still and we normally start getting our first cuttings from the farmers in May. I will have to go and check out their fields. I just hope their prices come down a bit but with diesel at $4.40 a gallon plus I am not holding my breath.

I have finallly started getting sawdust again so I am getting all the stalls stripped, even with most of the horses out 24 7 and preparing them in case they are needed. Beginning of May I have to decide on 4 - 6 horses to send to the pasture down the road which will be a help.

I want to start working on Dosie and Cayenne first as they have the most experience under saddle, hopefully get them onto the trails if nothing else and make them safe rides which they really are already, they just need the miles put on to them.

Most importantly I have to start getting my readership up, my posts interesting and drawing more people to my site and photos and gifts for sale so that I can feed my brood LOL.

Two Birthday Boys - 15 April!!!!

When Blue was born, he was the first baby I actually watched being born, he was exceptional in every way. I was still very inexperienced and he was the third baby that had been born since my arrival. He had the most beautiful way of moving with his mile long legs. He didnt trot or walk he just loped or cantered with this amazing ease everywhere. So he is my other Tax day baby along with the Brat, aka Mikes not so little buddy, aka Taxes. Below is a shot taken by a friend a few days ago, I have no pictures of me and my horses so unfortunately they normally come at inoportune moments when I look like hell and an old hag!!

And here is the star of the show. It is hard to believe that he is already one year old. I was trying to entice him out of the barn to have a run this morning because the weather is beautiful but the area outside the doorway is very muddy and he didn't want to get his little hooves dirty. Well I eventually went into the enclosure to see if that would entice him out. It did and this was the only shot I got because he was making a B-line for me to come play!!!!! I ran like the wind and climbed through the fence LOL. Bear in mind that this yearling is probably the same size as all of my other fully grown horses and weighs 900 - 1000lbs!

Our weather as you all know from my constant complaining has been dreadful for weeks now but it is beautiful and sunny today although in the 30s or 40s still, but I will take it.

I always find it hard at this time of the year to keep motivated especially when the dull weather, short days and cold really set in, so I have been absent for a while but am back for the moment LOL.

On one of my regular blogging buddies' blog, MiKaels Mania (the link is on the right side in my favorites), we have been discussing submissive behaviour and different responses in horses and two of them have been what some of us call "foal mouth" which is when the foal stretches its head and neck out towards an older horse, pulls the corners of its mouth and tongue back and makes a sort of chewing motion. The other is called the Flehmen Response, which is a response to a smell that I horse may encounter which causes them to curl their top lip up, one explanation is that doing this heightens their ability to smell whatever it is that has caught their attention.

Here are two pictures of these things happening. The first one is of Eb doing the foal mouth thing with Wiggle when he was still a baby, and the other is of Blue when he found something interesting to smell out in the pasture after the mares had been there before him LOL.

Not much happening, just getting through each day one at a time at the moment. Yesterday was dreadful, cold, gray and wet, we had another inch of rain. Taxes is not feeling well today, I am not sure if it is him going down with something or just depression. Yes horses do get depressed and with the weather and them being inside more because of it they feel down and go off their food. I am hoping that it is just that because I will take him out for a walk tomorrow and that will hopefully perk him up, but if he is getting ill that is a whole other ball game.

Not many photo ops the past week or so with the mud and cold. Hope you are all well. ((((Hugs))))

Two pictures today, one of "brat baby" Taxes with his bandage on. It has actually slipped down a bit, it is a very difficult place to try to keep a bandage on. I let him outside for a bit today and he was very well behaved and didnt run like a mad thing, just nibbled on the weeds and grass and got a bit of fresh air. He also has his little green halter on. I have had to leave it on him because I want him to get used to it so that when I do take it off he wont mind me putting it back on.

The second picture is of Blue who I have started putting out in the roundpen while the shade is over it and for the nights. It has been so hot and I am sure he enjoys the cool outside air. That is Blaze, his son, in the background looking on. Dosie has settled in with the two mares out in the field which I am grateful for, so now Blue can have his area and get some exercise. I would love to geld him too so that he is not such a liability and can also have a life. He is the most loving colt I have, he will find something to amuse himself no matter what. I would love to be riding him.
Very very hot again and for the foreseeable future too. I dont get much done outside because by 7.30am it is already dreadful and only starts to cool after 9pm and then it is still muggy and hot.
